I really need to get better at regularly sending out newsletters; I’m embarrassed to admit just how long it’s been. But I have news!!!
Following the success of my Lambda-Literary-award-finalist anthology Being Ace, late last year I decided I wanted to turn it into the start of a series, where each volume focuses on a different identity. The obvious topic for a sequel was aromanticism (often shown as closely linked to asexuality) and so I set about putting together a proposal for this new book: Being Aro. I had an idea of some of the authors I wanted to invite to be contributors for this volume, so I began contacting them.
Rosiee Thor was one of the contributors of Being Ace, and I invited her along to co-edit this volume. (Rosiee has also edited a number of amazing anthologies, so I was super excited to work with her!). Rosiee also had some excellent contacts with other authors who she thought would be a great fit for contributors, and so we came up with a pretty solid list.
My agent (Amy) and Rosiee’s agent (Saba) put together a pitch package, and we submitted it in an exclusive submission to Page Street Publishing (who published Being Ace).
We’d thought it would take a couple of months to hear back, but I think it was actually just over a week! And my editor at Page Street wanted this anthology! It was so great hearing that we had an offer!
For the last couple of months, Rosiee and I have been sitting on this news, while our agents did all the negotiations with Page Street so that we could have a contract we are all happy with. And, now, finally we can talk about this book as the announcement went out in Publishers Market yesterday!
We have a fantastic line up of bestselling and emerging YA authors we’ll be working with on this anthology (names to be announced soon!), and starting on Monday (31st March) we’ll also be holding an open call for submissions from new and unpublished writers! I’ll be sharing details about that on my Instagram (@mdyerauthor) so do check there if you’re interested!
In other news, my 2025 horror anthology, These Bodies Ain’t Broken, has just gone through page proofs, and is off to the printers very soon! This book releases in September 2025, and I cannot wait for you all to read it! (Also: cover reveal coming soon for this one!)
